Porsche original equipment (OE) tyres

N-marked tyres that match the factory specification for Porsche models - the original driving character and preserved car value.

A Cayenne pulls into the workshop, and the owner wants exactly the same set the factory fitted at the start: the right size and the right N marking. This is a Porsche original-equipment tyre - developed and tested for a specific model, and marked on the sidewall with the letter "N". This section brings together the N-spec models in our range for owners of the 911, 718, Cayenne, Macan, Panamera and Taycan.

Where N-spec tyres fit in and how to choose them

Porsche maintains its own homologation system, separate from other manufacturers' OE markings - Mercedes "MO", Audi "AO", BMW's star "*". The marking is the letter "N" with a revision number (N0, N1, N2 and onwards), but the latest version also adds a model letter: NA denotes the 911, NB the 718 Boxster/Cayman, NC the Cayenne, ND the Panamera, NE the Macan, NF the Taycan. Compared with a standard premium tyre that has no OE marking, the N-spec version may share the same name, size and speed rating, yet have a different internal construction and tread compound that the tyre maker has tailored to the specific Porsche.

  • Match the make and N code across all four. Porsche recommends fitting tyres of one make and one specification; mixing different N codes between axles alters the tuned steering and braking. Many Porsches run different sizes on the front and rear axle, so it is more convenient to buy the whole set at once.
  • A higher number is not a better tyre. N0, N1, N2 denote the revision of a specific size, not a quality level. If the car already runs, say, N1, the aim is all four on that same available specification.
  • Follow the factory size, load and speed rating. Even the reinforced (XL) version of the same model responds differently; most of our N-spec models are marked specifically with XL.
  • A non-N premium tyre is a compromise. In the correct size and load class it can be acceptable, but for the original character and value retention, N-spec remains the safer choice.

The segment covers summer, winter and all-season tyres, though summer tyres dominate our range by number. Some winter models carry the 3PMSF ("mountain and snowflake") marking. In Latvia, winter tyres with 3PMSF are mandatory from 1 December to 1 March for vehicles up to 3.5 t, and from 1 December 2024 the M+S marking alone is no longer sufficient (source: CSDD). In practice this means a Porsche owner needs a separate winter set - a summer N-spec sports tyre is both illegal and dangerous in winter.

Frequently asked questions

N is Porsche's approval mark for a tyre that the factory has developed and tested for specific models of its own. You will find it on the tyre sidewall together with the revision number (N0, N1 and onwards); in the latest system there is also a model letter before the digit.
The digit denotes the revision of a specific size, not a quality level. N0 is the first approved version, higher numbers are later revisions. It is best if all four tyres share the same available specification.
In the new system NA denotes the 911, NB the 718 Boxster/Cayman, NC the Cayenne, ND the Panamera, NE the Macan, NF the Taycan. GT models keep the single-letter designation with a revision number.
In the correct size and load class a good non-N premium tyre will also do, but it may have a different internal construction and compound. For the original driving character and preserving the car's value, N-spec is the safer choice.
In our range, N-marked tyres come from Pirelli, Michelin, Continental and several other premium brands such as Goodyear, Hankook and Yokohama. Most Porsche factory tyres are supplied specifically by Pirelli, Michelin and Continental.
No. NIO is a Chinese electric-car brand and has nothing to do with the Porsche "N" marking. The two are not interchangeable.
