You're changing the tyres on your Volvo XC60 and spot a short "VOL" marking on the sidewall of the old tyre - that is exactly what sets a factory tyre apart from an ordinary same-size replacement. A VOL tyre is developed and tested together with Volvo, specifically for its models: both the tread and the casing are matched precisely to this car's weight, suspension, power and electronics. This section brings together the Volvo-approved models from Pirelli, Michelin, Continental and Goodyear.

Who VOL tyres are for and how to choose the right one
This section is for Volvo owners who want to keep the factory ride and quietness when changing tyres. Most often these are drivers of newer XC40, XC60, XC90, S60/S90 and V60/V90 models. For Recharge hybrids and the fully electric EX30, EX90 and C40 it matters even more: the battery makes the car heavier, so you need a higher load index and reinforced XL or HL construction, while tyre noise is far easier to hear in the quiet EV cabin.
When choosing a specific model, it's worth paying attention to a few things:
- Load index and speed rating. Compare them with the factory figures on the door pillar. On a heavier or electric Volvo, the load index must match or exceed that figure, because an index chosen too low speeds up wear and worsens handling.
- Season first. The VOL marking doesn't replace your choice of season, it complements it. If you plan to use an all-season tyre in winter, make sure it carries the 3PMSF marking.
- Quietness from a foam liner. Some OE tyres have an internal noise-damping foam liner (Michelin Acoustic, ContiSilent, Pirelli PNCS). The cabin gets quieter, but repairs with a standard puncture repair kit tend to be trickier, and these tyres usually cost more.
- A matching set on each axle. On the same axle, fit tyres of one make and one tread pattern; it's best to put the newest ones on the rear axle.
- When VOL isn't essential. A premium tyre in the same size, load index and speed rating will do the job too. VOL simply gives the closest match to the factory setup.
In our range, VOL tyres come in summer and all-season versions; there are no pure winter models at the moment. Available sizes start at R17 and go up to R22, with widths from 215 to 295 mm.
